It has been recognized that regular exercise does the body good. Recently more and more information has been compiled about how exercise can contribute to a healthy mind. Research done at Duke University has showed that 60% of people who suffered from depression overcame their plight with just a 30 minute workout, three times per week. Even if you are not suffering from depression, just a few minutes a day can do wonders in improving your outlook on life. It is common knowledge that being active can reduce stress and increase ones confidence. In addition, the brain is an organ that works best when it is kept well oxygenated.
Being a "Muscle Head" is not such a bad thing.

You do not have to put out a lot to gain a lot.
Most individuals work way too hard when it comes to getting fit. You do not have to run miles a day to achieve a high level of health. When you incorporate a generalize strength training program and a cardio program you can shed body fat and get stronger and you do not have to train like an olympic athlete.
You could begin with a light warm up, walking a treadmill, riding a stationary bike or any activity that elevates your heart rate and gets the muscles warm. A warm up should last 10-15 minutes. At this time you are ready to engage in some weight training and when I say weight training I am not talking about lifting like a power lifter. Weight training is the switch that turns on your fat burners, combat osteoporosis and helps you be stronger. A program that targets all major muscle groups for sets of 1-3, for repetitions of 12-15 at a moderate weight.
After you finish your weight training you should do cardio training, this is when you elevate your heart rate to its training zone. (We can review training zone next time). Your cardio should start with just 15 to 20 minutes. To conclude your workout you should cool down with a light walk or ride and do some stretching exercises, a cool down should last 5-10 minutes. It is all that easy, with a commitment of just 1 hour 3 days a week you can shed body fat, increase lean muscle, feel stronger and get your heart fit. With the help of the certified fitness professionals at Summit Hill Health & Fitness we can get you started on the road to good health. Call us for a free trial at (518) 943-4892.
